About Solar Pool Heating
Question: How does it work?
Answer: A solar pool heating system takes your pool water and redirects it through dark panels on a sunny slope of your roof. You can set the temperature you want, and it will do the rest! If heat is available, a sensor tells a controller to start heating. Using the existing pool pump, an actuator rotates a valve to divert water to the solar panels. The water slowly heats up in the panels, and is then pumped back into your swimming pool. If you have a gas heater also, the solar panels pre-heat the water going into the gas heater.
Question: Since there are two types of system, which type of system do you guys install?
Answer: The two systems are seasonal and year-round solar pool heating. Most of the systems we install are seasonal, which means that a comfortable swimming temperature is achieved well into the spring and fall. During freezing weather in the winter months, the system is isolated to prevent water freezing in the panels. We do install a few year-round systems. If you have a year-round system installed, you can gather solar heat for your pool even in winter. However, the best applications for year-round systems are indoor pools, and the upfront cost to the customer is usually at least double what a seasonal system would cost.
Question: I’ve never heard of solar pool heating before…why install those types of systems?
Answer: Of all the solar applications, solar pool heating has the quickest payback compared to gas heating. Solar water heating of any kind is more universally used than any other type of solar energy system!
Question: There are many systems available over the internet. Why should I buy from you?
Answer: Before we jumped into the solar pool heating business, we spent months researching solar pool heating systems. There are a LOT of systems on the market! After careful consideration, a trip to the factory, review of opinions by industry experts, and going on installations with experienced installers out of state, we decided on the brand of solar pool heating system we currently install. The system we offer in central Oklahoma uses all stainless steel hold-down hardware. This is VITAL with our high winds. Excellent BTU’s per square foot, even distribution of heat over the panels, and quality design were also key considerations. Also, our trained installers ensure that you have no roof leaks, a system that looks good, and great performance over the decades!
