Are you tired of a blazing hot attic in the summertime? The Solar Star attic fan by Solatube uses a photovoltaic cell to run an exhaust fan on your roof. It runs when the sun comes out, cooling off your hot attic.
Fortunately for us, the hottest days of the year are also the sunniest. It’s the perfect application for solar. Solar Star reduces extreme heat build-up in the summer, removes moisture from your attic, and fights mold growth. Their quiet operation uses no utility electricity, which doesn’t cost you a penny!
There is one fan size, and it houses a 10 watt solar electric panel. The panel and motor have a 5 year warranty. The fan, housing, and flashing have a 10 year warranty, and installation has a 5 year warranty. As of 2009, EnergyWise has installed almost 1800 Solar Star attic fans since the year 2000 with great success!
The Solar Star attic fan generally draws enough air to ventilate 1000 sq. ft. of attic space. Although assessments are done in cubic feet per minute (cfm), EnergyWise strives to translate this to square feet for easier understanding. The steeper the roof, the more fans you may need per square foot. It is also vital to have plenty of soffit vents under the eaves of your home. We recommend 1 soffit vent for every 8 feet of soffit.
The federal tax credit is 30% of the solar panel and labor through the year 2016.
Installation of the Solar Star attic fan can be done within 1 hour by any of our certified installation consultants (CIC).
